THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE BUYING A TREADMILL IN ABUJA NIGERIA

Your Weight: Make sure you know your weight before buying a treadmill so you don’t end up buying a treadmill that’s too small for your weight. Also, knowing your weight will help you to not spend too much on treadmill that are meant to carry very heavy individuals.

For example, a 2 hp treadmill with a max user weight of 100kg would be fine for individuals that weigh less than 80kg, and a 2.5 hp treadmill with a max user weight of 110-120kg would be good for individuals that weigh less than 100kg and a 3 hp treadmill with a max user weight of 130-150kg would be great for people who weigh less than 120kg.

How Much Space Do You Have: It’s a good idea to consider the size of the space you have for your treadmill, you don’t want to buy a very large piece of equipment that would end up not fitting in the available space.

Control: This is very important because you need a treadmill that you can control without hassle. For example, the speed and incline buttons should also be available on the handles of the machine and not just on the dashboard alone. You will appreciate this feature when walking or running on a treadmill.

Tennis Table Buying Guide

This is an article about Table Tennis Table Buying Guide, we will be reveling some secrets about Table Tennis so you make better decisions when buying a table tennis table.

We have been selling Table Tennis Tables in Nigeria for some years now and like to think we know a thing or two about Ping Pong as some people like to call it. We are always more than happy to give you free friendly advice over the phone, but our Table Tennis Table Buying Guide might give all the answers you need to be able to make the right choice when it comes to buying an Indoor or Outdoor Table.

Who is this Table Tennis Table Buying guide for?
Nearly everyone has played Table Tennis at least once in their life, be it at school as a child, at a friend’s house, at home or even at a club. Table Tennis is one of those games that is always fun to play and one of the best things about game is anyone can play regardless of age and/or skill level. We won’t bore you with too many facts and figures, but there are plenty of studies about the benefits of playing Table Tennis, whether it will help kids with their eye-hand coordination or help our senior citizens improve their balance and lower their chances of falls and injuries.

If you have never owned a table before, you probably want to do your own research or rely on friends and family for advice. We would be more than happy to help you make the right choice as we like to think we know a thing about the subject as we have been selling the product for many years.

This guide is basically for anyone looking to buy an Indoor Table Tennis Table or an Outdoor Table Tennis Table, but more so for someone who is buying their first table and not sure which is the best one to buy. We are here to help you make the right decision.

Who are we and what we have to offer
PSS (PARAMOUNT Sports Shop) is a sports equipment and gym equipment shop based in Abuja Nigeria, we cover and sell to every part of Nigeria through our online store, we sell wide range of sports and gym equipment including table tennis tables, best of all, you can purchase our products online, over the phone or visit our shop in Abuja, Nigeria.

We sell the best international brands such as Butterfly, SOLACE, HAKKEN, PARAMOUNT and are always prepared to offer you friendly expert advice.

The Basics

Measure out the below dimensions of the table on your floor space. Stand behind where the edge of the table would be and swing your arm and see if you have enough room to play. Allow for sideways movement and your arm being outstretched for wide shots.

Generally, the more room you have the more fun you will have. If it turns out you don’t have enough room inside you might want to consider an outdoor table instead. You could also consider a Mini or Midi table for smaller indoor spaces.

Looking after your table is very easy. If you have an outdoor model, occasionally wipe it over with a damp sponge.

Remember NEVER put any food or drinks on your table.

Table covers are not a must but recommended, especially for outdoor tables which are stored outside and exposed to the weather. For indoor tables a cover is not essential unless your storage area is prone to lots of dust.

All Table Tennis Tables are not created equal!
Anyone researching table tennis tables would be surprised by the wide range of models available. The last few years have seen an explosion of new brands, of which all of them from Asia. Unfortunately, many importers in Nigeria like to name these imported tables some names that will make it seems like it was made in Europe or USA.

For example, you see names like American Fitness Table Tennis Table, German Giant Table Tennis Table etc but all these are from China.

It can be very confusing as to which table to buy. 2 tables with the same RRP can appear to be very similar, but once you have a closer look at the specifications, you will find that they can be very different. The size of the frame, legs and wheels are normally where the tables will differ and as a general rule, the thicker/bigger these are, the better/stronger the table will be.

Customers often ask us the question “Does these Chinese tables last?”. Before we answer that, we want to make it clear that China is home to nearly everything the world is using today simply because the cost of production in this country is very low.

China makes quality table tennis tables and I don’t need to tell you how good they’re in playing it. The problem of quality becomes major concern when some Nigerian importers would travel and give the factories a specification of table that won’t last.

We (Paramount Sports Shop have visited the factories and seen for ourselves the materials and processes that produce the tables. We are also proud to say that all tables we offer including HAKKEN table tennis board have passed strong quality control test.

The Chinese factory we use also manufacture for most of the other top international brands and that is because it is the best Table Tennis Table factory in Asia and we won’t mention their name because is our business secret weapon against our competitors. The price of quality China tables is good, which is an important factor when it comes to buying a Table Tennis Table.

Questions you need to answer
There are 4 standard questions we normally ask anyone making an enquiry about buying a table tennis table. Once you have answered the questions, we recommend you give us a call on 07032977996, so together we can make sure you get the best possible table for your needs.

Will you be using the table Indoors or Outdoors? What to consider: Just a little bit of rain can permanently damage and indoor table.
A 1-piece or 2-pieces table? What to consider: 2-pieces tables are easier to move around as you can move only half the table at a time.

Recreational or Competition table? What to consider: A competition table is much stronger and durable with a thicker surface for the best bounce. Recreational tables are much cheaper and should do the job for most families.
What is your budget? What to consider: Allow for freight, bats and balls etc. if you need them

1. Will you be using the table indoors or outdoors?
The Golden Rule is: If there is any chance of the table being exposed to rain or humidity and/ or excessive sun light, then buy an Outdoor Table Tennis Table!

It’s okay to buy an indoor table if you place it outside for an hour or two as long as it is not raining or it is not a very hot day. It’s also okay to buy an indoor table if it’s kept undercover in an outdoor area as long as it won’t be exposed to too much moisture as it will damage the playing surface. In this situation, you should definitely put a cover over it whenever not in use.

Outdoor tables are more expensive compared to equivalent indoor tables due to their specialised weatherproof surfaces. The extra money you spend on an outdoor table is money well spent compared to the risk of leaving an indoor table out in the weather.

2. A 1-Piece or 2-Piece Table?
A 1-Piece table is where all parts (legs, frame and the playing tops etc.) are connected on a trolley system in one single unit. Many of the one-piece models have the advantage of the net being part of the table structure, so you don’t have to put it on and take it off. They are also handy and convenient for someone who wants to play by themselves (playback practice mode).

A 2-Piece Table comes in 2 separate autonomous halves. You then connect the 2 parts using the net and posts at the middle which keeps it all together. Most 2-piece tables have brakes for added stability although these are not essential. The 2-piece table design has a couple of advantages over a 1-piece. It is lighter and easier to move around if you only move 1 half of the table at a time and it takes up much less space when stored. If you move your table up and down stairs and/or don’t have a lot of room in your playing area.

We recommend a 2-piece table instead of a 1-piece table. 2-piece tables also have playback practice mode. Conclusion: There is no difference between the 2 versions once the table is set up. They have the standard measurements of 274 (L) x 152.5 (W) x76 (H) cm. A 1-Piece table is about 75 cm wide when stored and a 2-Pieces table just over 60 cm wide, but if you don’t have any storage problems and someone is always there to help you move/lift the table, then it doesn’t really matter whether you buy a 1- Piece or 2-Piece table.

3. Recreational or Top End?
If the table is to be used for official competition or you simply want the best bounce and an ultra-strong table then an ITTF (International Table Tennis Federation) approved table is the way to go.

ITTF approved tables are always used for National, International and Olympic Championships. They have been fully tested by the ITTF for bounce quality before being approved with Approved status.
An ITTF approved table is normally 22mm or thicker, so for recreational use you don’t really need this kind of table but remember the thicker the table, the better the bounce.

ITTF approved tables are more expensive because they have a thicker playing surface and much stronger frame and wheel structure to carry the heavier surface. Being ultra-strong, an ITTF table will last a lot longer if properly looked after. Please note that no Outdoor tables are approved for official sanctioned competition.

4. What is your Table Tennis Budget?
This question together with the question “Will you be using the table indoors or outdoors?” are the most important. As a general rule the thicker the table top, the better the bounce.

Conclusion
Hopefully we have been able to help you in your decision as to which table tennis table to buy, but it doesn’t stop here. We highly recommend that you call us once you have written down your answers as we can do the final check to make sure you get exactly the table for your needs and budget.

Treadmill Buying Guide

DC Motorized Treadmill (Foldable with wheels)

When we talk about a gym, treadmill plays the most vital role among all the machines you should have in your arena. Well, a treadmill becomes an important part of your workout routine especially when you are focusing on cardio workouts. Buying one might be a heavy toll on your pocket but simple knowledge might help you out with saving at least some bucks.

Spending a part of your income in buying a treadmill is definitely going to render your pocket light. So why not be the best judge and take away the equipment home with confidence.

Treadmill types: There are two different types of treadmills.

1. Manual treadmills: Tend to be inexpensive, but require more effort on the part of the user. You have to move to get them started and can’t make changes to the incline.

Benefits of manual treadmill:

  • Cost effective.
  • Manual treadmills are lightweight.
  • Low risk of fall/ injury.
  • Easy to store.
  • Do not require an electric outlet.
  • Foldables so they can fit in a closet or under a bed.
  • Have wheels on the front, allowing you to roll the treadmill from room to room.

2. Motorized treadmills: Tend to have a number of features, including adjusting speeds, pulse sensor and inclines during the workout.

There are also 2 types of motorised treadmills: A direct current (DC) motor and an alternating current (AC) motor. The difference is that most home treadmills run on DC motors since they are quieter, require less power, and provide a smoother application of power to the running belt. AC motors are more suited in a commercial environment, and are more durable on a heavy duty basis.

AC Motorized Treadmill

Benefits of motorized treadmill:

  • Easier to maintain a steady pace.
  • Speed and Incline levels can easily be changed from Treadmill console.
  • Built-inheart rate monitor, calorie tracker, fan and some has music players.
  • Cushioning is provided to support your knees and prevent you from injuries.

Frame, Non-folding/folding and Size:

Look for a treadmill with a steel frame. Steel is generally the better option because they are more shock absorbent, tend to be lighter and are quieter. Other than material, it is important to look at whether the treadmill is stable or not. Generally the heavier the treadmill, the more stable it is.

As for size, it’s important to measure up how it will fit in your home. If you are really tight on space, a folding treadmill will generally be more mobile than a non-folding treadmill. For a non-folding treadmill, although they are larger, take up more space and are heavier, they are generally commercial treadmills built to last on a heavy duty basis and will be more stable to be used by users.

Why a treadmill?

Treadmill is extremely effective for cardiovascular fitness along with other cardio workouts such as walking, jogging, running etc. It serves best when you’re aiming to burn calories. However, if you are a competitive runner, a treadmill complements your outdoor workouts. It is most suited for those who reside in an urban environment where traffic or air quality may not be supportive or even for those living in extreme cold or hot climates.

Who will be using the treadmill?

Decide who will be using it. This is important because a single user that weighs 50 kg will need a much different treadmill than a family of 4 that has 2 people over 90 kg.

For every regular use above 2 people, we recommend you to buy a really good quality treadmill (regular use is defined as 3 or more uses a week). Plus, a 45 kg old lady who wants to use it 10 minutes a day and 3 days per week is going to need a much different treadmill than a competitive athlete.

Where to place the treadmill?

If you have a tiny space to place it in, you won’t be able to buy a large commercial unit, even if you can afford it. You want to make sure you see the treadmill every day. Remember, out of sight is out of mind. Space may necessitate a treadmill that can fold up. You may even need to limit the weight of a unit if it will rest upstairs. Think through all these factors before you purchase.

Why one should buy a treadmill?

Treadmill for weight loss:

Many use treadmills to burn off their extra calories for performing weight loss workouts. Using the treadmill will help you accelerate the weight loss phenomenon.

Treadmill for runners:

Practice makes a man perfect! The runners who run 5km or longer marathons need to improve their stamina and strength and a treadmill is perfect for practicing longer.

Feature to look for:

Motor & Horsepower

You should choose a treadmill with a motor that is appropriate for how you plan to use it. Larger motors and higher horsepower are a must if you plan on running long distances, since a smaller motor will burn out sooner.

  • If you’re a serious runner, consider a treadmill with 1.5 to 2 continuous horsepower.
  • If you just plan on doing some light jogging or walking, 1 horsepower is enough for you.

AC motors (Range from 3.0CHP- 6.0CHP) are mostly used in commercial treadmills and require much more power. The AC motor will also require a dedicated power line.

For a home treadmill, look for a DC motor with a minimum 1 year warranty for a quieter workout. Watch TV or listen to music while working out can help you do longer and better workout.

Walking Belt:

  • The more belt surface area you have, the harder the power system has to work to keep it all go. Stay away from overly thick belts.
  • Oversize and thick belts are now the rage but most people only need 18” of width and 52” of length because this size is perfect for all height people.
  • Belts that are too thick hold in heat which increases electrical consumption and wears out key components faster. The added weight of the belt also puts more stress on the roller bearings. Additionally, the added heat wears out the belt quicker. Find a belt size on which you are comfortable. However, a thicker belt will give you more cushioning effect.

Belt Deck:

The deck is where your feet will spend all of their time over the life of the treadmill, so it’s important to find one that fits your size and stride and feels comfortable to you. Taller runners and those with longer strides should consider a longer deck of 50 to 60 inches. If you just want to walk on your treadmill look for a minimum belt surface length of 48 inches. These lengths will provide a more comfortable stride for walking or running. If you feel like you’re about to fall off the treadmill to either side when you run or just need a little more breathing room and support, consider a wider belt of around 20 to 22 inches.

4. Display panels:

These should have clear instructions and be easy to read and use, so the information you want isn’t awkward to access while walking or running.

5. Cushioning:

A well-cushioned deck will absorb the force of your step, protecting your joints and ligaments from damage which is important for runners and people who use the treadmill a lot.

6. Pulse sensors:

To allow you to monitor your heart rate while exercising, pulse sensors should be in a position where you can reach them easily and they don’t impede your movement while you’re working out. Having the sensors on a front handlebar is the easiest position for most people.

7. Safety key :

We’d strongly recommend you buy a machine with this feature. If you attach the safety key clip to your clothes and you slip suddenly or need to stop in a hurry, pulling the key out stops the treadmill instantly. Take the key away when you finish so that small children can’t accidentally start the machine.

8. Incline:

The incline function adds intensity to your workout by adding in what’s basically a hill, helping to add a bit of interest to your walk or run. Look for a motorised or power incline lets you vary the incline easily while exercising.

  • With a manual incline, you’ll have to stop your workout and get off the treadmill to adjust it, but machines with manual incline are a lot cheaper. For challenging hill work, look for an incline level of at least 12%. Some machines have hill programs, which use incline levels to mimic a series of hills and valleys of varying lengths and gradients. These can be a great way to reach your peak performance level, and it’s more fun than running at the same level all the time.
  • For sake of precaution, always warm up before attempting inclines by walking or jogging on a flat belt for five to 10 minutes.
  • Cool down at an easy pace after an incline workout, and stretch your calves and ankles to ward off soreness and injury.

NOISE:

  • All treadmills make noise but a reasonably quiet machine generally means less friction and wear on the treadmill. On the flip side, a dead silent treadmill does not necessarily mean that it is perfect.
  • Some manufacturers use steel surrounded motor areas and others have used foam to absorb noise, so make sure you know the construction before you judge a treadmill by its noise but generally, the noise a treadmill generates is a good indicator of the machine’s quality. Plus, when you don’t wake up the neighbourhood with your morning workouts, it makes for friendlier neighbours.

Resistance Band Exercises to Add to Your Workout

Resistance Band Exercises to add to your workout

This post is all about resistance band exercises to add to your workout plan.

We know the importance of walking and getting in your steps, but cardio isn’t the only type of exercise you should be doing. Strength training matters too. Not only can strength training help increase bone density (and help ward off the brittle bones of osteoporosis), but it can also boost your metabolism and help you lose weight, too.

The good news? You don’t need a 20-pound dumbbell to get in a good strength training workout — in fact, all you need is a 1-ounce resistance band. Really.

Why Resistance Band Exercises?
Resistance bands are the perfect tool for sculpting or toning your muscles on-the-go — whether you’re traveling across the country or just down the road to your local park, says Cris Dobrosielski, a spokesperson for the American Council of Exercise and the owner of Monumental Fitness Results, in San Diego, California. “Doing more reps, say 3 sets of 15 reps,  provides a muscular endurance benefit, we well as some amount of hypertrophy, or muscle building,” he says.

If you’re a beginner or intermediate exerciser, start with a lighter resistance band (like 5 to 15 pounds of resistance). If you’re an advanced exerciser, you can opt for a moderate or heavy band. Don’t think bands pack enough power for your strength training routine? Think again. Some bands can pack more than 300 pounds of resistance!

7 Resistance Band Exercises to Add to Your Walk

Double up on your walk by getting both cardio and strength-training benefits. Incorporate these seven moves into your usual walking routine.

Band Pull Aparts

Resistance Band Exercises to add to your workout

The benefits: Pulling exercises are particularly good at recruiting multiple muscle groups — which also burns more calories, says Dobrosielski.
Targets: Shoulders
Directions:
1. Hold a resistance band with both hands at shoulder width and shoulder height, with your palms facing the floor.
2. Keeping your arms straight but not locked, pull the band in a lateral motion, out past your sides. The band should come toward your chest as you pull.
3. Pause, then return to the starting position. That’s one rep.

Banded Rows

Resistance Band Exercises to add to your workout

The benefits: Some people overlook the muscles that they can’t see in the mirror. By targeting your back muscles, you’ll build better posture and ward off future injuries.
Targets: Back
Directions:
1. Sit on the floor with your legs extended straight out in front of you, and loop the resistance band around your feet. Then, hold the band in each hand with a hammer curl or neutral grip, (thumbs pointed at the ceiling). That’s the starting position.
2. Keeping your back straight, slowly pull the band toward your core, squeezing your shoulder blades together. Pause, then slowly extend your arms toward your feet, returning to the starting position. That’s one rep.

Lateral Band Walks

The benefits: About 80 percent of adults will experience back pain at some point in their lives, according to the National Institute of Health. But exercising your glute muscles can go a long way toward building a stronger, healthier lower back, says Dobrosielski.
Targets: Glutes
Directions:
1. Loop a band around your ankles. Start with your knees slightly bent and your feet positioned shoulder-width apart.
2. Next, keeping your shins vertical and right over your ankles, take a lateral step with your right foot, followed by a smaller step to the right with your left foot. That’s one rep.

Banded Biceps Curls

Targets:  Biceps
Directions:
1. Hold the resistance band in both hands, keeping your arms at your sides and your palms facing forward. Then, step on the center of the resistance band with one foot (or two feet, for more resistance). That’s the starting position.
2. Bend at the elbows and curl the band up toward your shoulders. Pause, then lower your arms to the starting position. That’s one rep.

The benefits: The plank is often touted as the ultimate ab exercise — so consider the push-up a core and chest workout.
Targets: Chest
Directions:
1. Loop a resistance band around your back and position the ends around your thumbs.
2. Lower yourself to the ground and place your palms and toes on the floor. Your hands should be directly below your shoulders, and your body should form a straight line.
3. Bend your elbows and lower your body toward the floor until your chest nearly touches the ground. Hold for one second, then return to the starting position. That’s one rep.

Banded Hip Thrusts

Resistance Band Exercises to add to your workout

The benefits: Hip thrusts target your hips, glutes, and hamstrings, while also strengthening the hip bones — which are increasingly prone to fractures as we age[2].
Targets: Glutes and hamstrings
Directions:
1. Loop a resistance band around your thighs and place it at your hip crease, then lie face-up on the floor, keeping your knees bent and your arms extended out to the sides.
2. Using your arms to anchor the band to the floor, press through your heels and lift your hip toward the ceiling until your body forms a straight line from your knees to your chest. Remember to squeeze your glute muscles as you raise your hips. Pause, then lower to the starting position. That’s one rep.

Banded Squats

Resistance Band Exercises to add to your workout

The benefits: Compound movements like squats work more muscle and burn more calories than isolation exercises.
Targets: Quads
Directions:
1. Loop a band around your thighs, just above your knees. Keep your feet positioned shoulder-width apart, your knees slightly bent, and your hands straight out in front of you.
2. Shift your weight back onto your heels and sink down until your thighs are parallel with the floor.
3. Pause, then return to the starting position. That’s one rep.

Looking for a more challenging variation? Try this version of banded squats:

Directions:
1. Stand on one end of a large looped band with your feet shoulder-width apart. Grabbing the band with both hands, squat down and loop the other end of the around your neck and return to standing while continuing to hold onto the band with both hands.
2. Keeping your spine neutral and core tight, shift your hips back while keeping your weight in your heels as you lower down into a squat. Try and lower until your thighs are parallel to the floor.
3. Pause at the bottom, then forcefully press down through your heels to return to standing. Squeeze your glutes at the top of the movement as you press your hips forward. That’s one rep.
